Final Project_Ru Xu

I have a dream which is to become a Data and Graphic journalist. When thinking about journalism, normally, what comes to people's mind is a news article. However, recently, with the development of new technology, interactive data visualization and games are become part of news report. 

I am a data visualization enthusiast, and my data journey begins when I was a student in University of Southern California. Nowadays, there are so many ways to visualize data, and D3.JS which we learned on interactive media class is only one way of them. I want to first show some of my previous work on data visualization using R and GIS.

For this project, https://xururururu.github.io/R/ I use R language programming to visualize data. It is a research on private school vs public school in the United States, narrowing down to the state of California. 

For this project, https://xururururu.github.io/articlegis/ I use GIS to visualize data in this project. It is a research on surveillance cameras in Baltimore City. 

Now I want to show my work regarding D3.JS which use JavaScript to visualize data. 

Comparing to the skills I mentioned above, an advantage of D3.JS is interaction.

https://xururururu.github.io/d3map/ This is my first data visualization project. It visualize the Microsoft office numbers in the U.S. This map data visualization is very popular nowadays, and are often applied to president election, like votes for Democratic Party and Republican Party in different states. The squares are interactive, and you can see the number of Microsoft office in each state when you handle mouse over. Also, you can see the color of each states are different depends on the numbers, from deep to shallow. 

https://xururururu.github.io/d32/ My second data visualization project includes relationships and numbers. It first visualize relationships, what kind of different information and area includes. Next, it visualize data. When you handle mouse over, you can see different data, which is the number of different nonprofit organization use for each organizational disclosure.

Last I want to an interesting project regarding data. It just for fun, and I use WebGL in JavaScript. https://xururururu.github.io/web3/ I called it Data Water.
